I finished Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark. It was a good Halloween read with gritty action, disgusting monsters and some smart twists. Invoking the ring shout dance tradition (that I knew nothing about) adds a lot to the narrative's substance. I slightly preferred it to The Black God's Drums, which I also enjoyed, but ultimately don't remember too much about.
