Yesterday I heard the sad news of Alan Rankine’s passing. He was known for many great musical achievements, but I know him best as a founder of the Associates. Their sweeping, swooping, angular, elegant #NewWave meets #PostPunk songs helped me through dark times. “Party Fears Two” is one of their classics. #RIPAlanRankine and, as always, #RIPBillyMackenzie, who died in 1997.

Saddened and shocked to hear Alan Rankine has passed away. He was the lead tutor at #StowCollege in '99-'00 when we signed #BiffyClyro. I didn't complete the course in the end, but Alan was always helpful to me in trying to sort things out, and in my experience he was an honest, intelligent musician. Rest In Peace, sir. #RIPAlanRankine
