One of the best things to come from the fall in house prices will be the reduced profits of estate agents. These grifters have been living on easy street for decades with revenues growing on the back of soaring house prices and profitability rises from increased automation. What on earth do they do beyond look gormless? Good riddance to them one and all. Of course the filthy have done nothing to solve.

It seems pointless to criticise a government for failing to curb corporate price-gouging when that is its very reason for existence. theguardian.com/business/2023/

So many things they can't afford - but pissing eye-watering sums of our money up the wall isn't one of them.
"estimated fraud and error across government at between 33.2 billion pounds and 58.8 billion pounds for the 2020/21 year alone, excluding pandemic-related spending. There has been a substantial increase in the level of fraud reported in the annual reports and accounts we audit," said NAO head Gareth Davies."

Went in the post office today to get 8 second class stamps for my mum. £5.44. I'm old enough to remember when you could get 40 FIRST class stamps for a quid.

Nowadays, why would anyone send a letter by privatised mail when they can send it by email and it's there almost instantly?

Time to end

Don't understand why phone/broadband contracts are allowed to increase by inflation +3.9% every year, with a fixed term contract. The risk of inflation over 12 or 24 months should already be included in any price. 😠

It's a 14.4% increase this year.

Other annual contracts - your house insurance, car insurance, council tax, vehicle tax, gym membership - don't do this.

Almost as if , just like , exists to protect the providers, not the consumers.

Trial of scrapping train return tickets extended

bbc.co.uk/news/business-645487

Pricing will never be simple if it's based on where and when.

Do I smell a hidden agenda here, to ramp up the price of rail travel in the Uk still further by making the price of 2 single journeys more expensive than 1 return journey?

Rail travel in the UK is already one of the most expensive in the world, with trains overcrowded and dirty.

Top tip if you're changing broadband supplier (although to the savvier among you this may be completely obvious)
Ring the prospective supplier. I found a good deal on U-Switch but got it another £7 p/m cheaper over the phone. 👍

Energy standing charges are indefensible and should be scrapped and made illegal.
With the profits all the energy companies make, they don't need the money.

This is madness. My son paid £165 last year for a month and that was bad enough. This year same time it’s £450 and he’s cut down on so much.
