Alright #infosec fediverse can you help a journo out? I’m writing for iPhone Life Magazine and I’ve got to make some recommendations to our readers about third party security and privacy tools for consumer iPhone use in the year of our lord 2023. I’m basically literate about security issues (#riskybiz groupie and #cyber hashtag lurker) but I’m no red or blue teamer.

I find myself unsure that there are any apps and tools to recommend besides like… a YubiKey maybe? very skeptical of so called Anti-Virus apps…. With app sandboxing virus scans aren’t a thing so they seem to offer VPN access and some combination of identity protection monitoring, phishing detection, and secure browsing. I guess I can see the value in phishing protection if it works, but should consumers really be running the webroot app or Avast or similar on their iPhones?

I’m inclined to recommend our readers just not with apps in general. No apps at all please. Let alone ones that can snoop on messaging. But, what does the #cybersecurity fediverse think? What should consumers be running on iOS? Are there any consumer tools I should know about?

Definitely worth a listen. #Riskybiz discussing the falacy of #zeroday stockpiling, and the ineffective nature of some attempts to legislate away bad behavior.

Key point: you don't stop unethical governments from spying on journalists, political opponents, activists, etc., through #cybersecurity laws.

After leaving #zdnet, well-known infosec journalist #CatalinCimpanu joined #PatrickGray at #RiskyBiz. Now we do not only have a great weekly #InfoSec #podcast, but also a shorter #RiskyBizNews podcast three times a week.

That seems sound, since probably most topics discussed by Patrick and #AdamBoileau in their show were already based on articles written by Catalin.
