In 1975 en 1976 brengt hij twee soloalbums uit, trekt op tournee en na de eerste avond overlijdt hij aan een overdosis heroïne

als frontman #RodEvans, die in 1968 samen met Ian naar een auditie gaat, georganiseerd door het management van #DeepPurple, nadat nieuwe drummer #BobbyWoodman liet blijken de muzikale koers maar niks te vinden.
Met Rod en Ian is de eerste line-up van #TheGlobesLoudestBand een feit, gekend als Mark I, met #RitchieBlackmore, ,#JonLord en #NickSimper.
Ian vervangt stichtend lid #ChrisCurtis ex lid van #TheSearchers, die slachtoffer werd van zijn eigen concept, wisselend personeel in de band.

treed hij op in een kinderprogramma van de BBC, #recordbreakers, en vestigt het wereldrecord #WorldFastestDrummerLiveOnTV.
In 1976 vervoegt hij #Rainbow van #RitchieBlackmore, de band waarmee hij echt wereldberoemd zal worden.
In 1980 zal hij genoemd worden als vervanger van de overleden #JohnBonham bij #ledzepplin.
Op 16 augustus 1980 is Rainbow de hoofdact op de eerste #MonstersOfRock.
Samen met zanger #GrahamBonnet vertrekt hij bij Rainbow en richt #GrahamBonnetAndTheHooligans op

De pequeño, #RitchieBlackmore, quien cumple años hoy, deseaba ser como Tommy Steele, considerado el primer ídolo adolescente y estrella del rock británico. Cuando contaba con 11 recibió su primera guitarra a condición de aprender a tocar “correctamente” el instrumento. Para ello, tomó clases de guitarra clásica durante un año que influirían en su posterior desarrollo como compositor. Ya más grande, había abandonado la escuela, dio sus primeros pasos como músico de sesión y tras pasar por varias bandas conoció a Jon Lord en 1967. El camino hacia Deep Purple daba sus primeros pasos. El resto, es historia conocida.
