#RKWard just gained a new #R function, rk.select.file(). it combines the functionality of file.select() and more importantly, utils::choose.dir() which is only available in #rstats for #windows. it opens a file system browser so you can select a file or directory, and returns the selected path. there's a wrapper rk.choose.dir() which only accepts directories.
I started a small survey about #RKWard. The results so far:
- Turns out that 83 % don't know it and
- circa 8 % use it.
There were 139 people who participated in the survey. Given that RKWard is among the oldest #rstats IDEs and GUIs [1], it is somewhat surprising. I suppose we should improve the advertising of our tool.
Open source projects thrive on others joining in. Here is a nice example of an #RKWard user who has started to create help for RKWard, in RKWard with #Quarto. Help is certainly gratefully accepted.

@sharoz One of the oldest #rstats GUI/IDEs called #RKWard (https://rkward.kde.org/, https://fosstodon.org/@rkward).
Occasionally, I think about how to work effectively with #rstats. Currently, I am teaching my #bioinformatics courses with #RKWard again. I try to do most of it with packages from the base installation. #datatable is an exception. But otherwise, I like to use #within (very fast) instead of #mutate.
But there are more approaches, which are often simpler/faster/stable:

@kde KDE and Free Software developers support #climate research by providing transparent, robust, and adaptable tools for all scientists worldwide.
Thank you @kde for making such great #research tools accessible for all to use, understand, adapt, and share. These inherent characteristics of #OpenSouce #FreeSoftware make for good science!

An interesting blog post from the developers of the Kate text editor. It seems like they are adding a embedded terminal to Windows.

This is good news for #RKWard because this might end up there too. This is because RKWard gets numerous features from KDE technology.

I would like to mention that #RKWard @rkward is starting to provide papaja code snippets as of version 0.7.5.
Currently
papaja::r_refs
papaja::sanatize_terms
papaja::apa_print
More likely in the future.

Thanks for the feedback.
Methinks, it is more like a competitor to #RKWard, #JASP, #Jamovi, #Rcmdr, #Rattle, #Deducer #AnalyticFlow {FLOSS & free of charge} or #bluesky, {commercial} than to #RStudio.
RStudio is more an IDE than a GUI. Tools like RKWard are both.

I just tested the #bruceR package in #RKWard, which has many useful functions. It is a bit confusing to see the hint for #RStudio. Plot pane. 😏
It is really great to have packages like #pacman, data.table, which solve many porblems. When I started with R in 2002, things were a bit different.

#reticulate is a great package to work with #python in #rstats. Here is a very simple example of how to use it in #RKWard.
RKWard supports syntax highlighting for several languages, including Python. However, this is not done automatically, but must be selected by the user (blue arrow).

I just learned that the #XiMpLe package (https://cran.r-project.org/package=XiMpLe) got some interesting updates in the development branch (https://github.com/rkward-community/XiMpLe/commits/develop). XiMpLe is a simple #XML tree parser/generator. For example it is useful to to read XML files into R objects, to get information out of and into nodes, and write R objects back to XML code. Originally it was made for the development of #RKWard plugin.

Mainly bioinformatics with #rstats and #RKWard beeing my friends. Sometimes #Python helps to solve problems. #datatable (the #SQL of #R) is what I often use. My raw data originate from methods like #qPCR, #dPCR, #NGS and image data of patient data (count data, time series) keep me busy. Lately I worked with text data in my work related to #forensics.

@zlatiah just looked at your #codeberg. #awk #sh #R #md … with these skills my recommendation is: Skip the pure #LaTeX idea and go for #RMarkdown (#RKWard || #Posit support this quite nicely).
Have a look here for templates: https://fosstodon.org/@devSJR/109321171970580456
