I never thought I'd enjoy working a desk job but it definitely has some positive sides. Like that, when you have your own desk, the allow you to decorate it.

Jokes on my coworkers I'm a weirdo and now have my own little cabinet of curiosities on my screen-stand.

My Therea Olegrandjeani/Question Mark Roaches have been very busy this year and the first nymphs have hatched!

They are so tiny and FAST at this age it's crazy

The beautiful black and white patterned wings only grow in adulthood. This little baby has two more years before it's a fully grown adult!

Here we have one of my Therea Olegrandjeani question mark roaches airing out an Ootheca.

Many roaches actually have two pouches in their abdomen! One to produce the Ootheca and lay the eggs in them and another one to incubate them. To transfer it from one pouch to the other they have to expel the Ootheca almost completely!

After the Ootheca has been dropped it takes about three months until the nymphs hatch. Question mark roaches are a quite slowly developing species so after hatching it takes roughly two years until their last shed into an adult roach!

My starter colony of #Dubia #roaches (#Blaptica dubia) is finally producing #nymphs.

Yesterday's meeting of my orchid society was especially good and not just because one of my plants won a ribbon (see previous post) and we discussed the upcoming show. I got a #Dracunculus vulgaris and a #Pinguicula esseriana from one of my main plant swapping buddies; I got a starter colony of #Blaptica #dubia #roaches from another member; I picked up a #Crassula ovata, #Pachyphytum oviferum, and some sort of small #Haworthia from other members; and I sold an old glazed ceramic orchid pot.
