@astrophoenix This is fantastic, thanks! I've been trying to clean up some of my #roamresearch graph to make as clean of an export for #obsidian as possible, this should help a lot!
I'm a fan of both #commandline and #git too, this is definitely in my realm of interests. Much appreciated!

I was toying with the idea of using #RoamResearch for my Third Brain (i.e. the information you collect that doesn't directly relate to you or any of your projects/areas).
Their subscription page had a scholarship code box on it, for a discount. I asked for a code only to find they've discontinued that programme. Just means I've been priced out of ever using that app again. 😥
Maybe #RemNote could be a good substitute for that? 🤔

@EpiphanicSynchronicity @obsidianmd Also, plaintext plus version control is lovely. I've got a private repo that I use for testing different platforms (like #ObsidianMD, #roamresearch backups, #logseq, #SilverBulletMD, #zettlr, and others), and it's great to see the evolution over time.
It also makes me less hesitant to do evergreen pruning, knowing that it's all there.

#obsidian, #logseq, #roamresearch, #tana. Tutte app per gli appunti, così funzionali e complesse che hanno un po’ perso la loro semplicità. Avete realmente bisogno di tutte queste app così complesse? #produttivitá

@schnittchen I hear you. It's hard when you expect a tool to behave one way and find it's not doing what you want/expect. But perhaps it's not "exclusionary" as much as it's focused or opinionated. It may not be realistic for any tool to document in depth what it's not and doesn't want to be.
I tried #Obsidian months before I adopted it and hated it. Tried #RoamResearch and a few other tools for a while. Then came back around in May 2021 with fresh eyes and never looked back.
@nhan Ahh right, I've seen that - thanks! I've been using #roamresearch since January 2020 and only used the JSON export a few times. I don't mind diving into it a bit, looks way less daunting than EDNs!
I would love to see something like a standardized PKM format for notes, or at least a clear way to convert between all the different platforms.
With #RoamResearch being too expensive and #Notion having no end-to-end encryption, I've been looking for another app to serve as my online hub.
I have decided to give #RemNote another shot, to see if it'll fit the bill, as it's available on all of my devices. 🙂

Do you ever get the feeling that you're in an abusive relationship is note taking apps. I've used then all and in my pursuit for perfection have achieved absolutely nothing. This is the subject of my next long-form essay. subscribe for free at http://notentirelyboring.com to read it first. (And you'll also get a weekly newsletter thats not entirely boring)

Question to #secondbrain users, how do read newsletters? Do you have some kind of solution for easy reading, snippets highlighting and making comments?

@markmcelroy @sigsegv I use a script to regularly import #DayOne notes into #Obsidian. DayOne does a lot of capturing for me (location,…). But for editing and revisiting and linking, I do that in Obsidian. For notes and #PKM I use #Logseq (after switching from #RoamResearch). Syncing is via Git.

My note-making journey, as told in apps, from 2000 forward:
- Handwritten Notes
- #DevonThink
- #Evernote
- #NotationalVelocity
- #Yojimbo
- #KeepIt
- #OneNote
- #SimpleNote
- #Bear
- #GoodNotes
- #AppleNotes
- #RoamResearch
- #Obsidian
- #Tana
- #Obsidian (again)
- #Logseq
- #Obsidian and #Logseq
And those are just the tools I adopted for at least a month at a time.

- Installer #obsidian ✅
- Récupérer ses notes au format #markdown sur #roamresearch ✅
- Remettre de l'ordre dans ses notes = gros bordayl 😅

missing those days people used to share their work process with #roamresearch ... almost nobody into #pkm talks about that anymore
I *want* to like #CapacitiesHQ / #Capacities, but it feels ... over-engineered? ... to me. And very fiddly.
Another obstacle for me is the fact they offer a "Believer Plan."
#RoamResearch's believer plan remains my one big tech-purchase regret ... and that bad experience has permanently tainted the term "Believer" for me.
I'm an insider and backer and supporter of both #Logseq and #obsidian -- but I don't think I'll ever sign up for another "believer" plan.

Is anyone using Logseq or similar? I started using it a while ago but I haven't built any routine around organizing the notes and iterating on them. What's everyone's experience? #logseq #obsidian #roamresearch
#logseq #obsidian #roamresearch
最近都在使用 #RoamResearch 謝筆記以及紀錄工作及個人事項。
基本上我覺得 #LogSeq 比較好用,但我在一些場合無法使用AGPL授權的軟體。
@PeterWyrm clicking through on it, I see a few sporadic instances of it. I expect it might have something to do with which servers yours federates with (educated guess).
There’s now pkm.social - I’d be very surprised if there weren’t some folks on that instance talking about #roamresearch
As someone who used #RoamResearch in the past and is an avid #ObsidianMD user nowadays, this article rings true: https://borretti.me/article/unbundling-tools-for-thought
There's been a time where I tried to put everything into Roam, but it felt janky. Atomic notes always look like a mess. Etc pp.
ISTM like the #ToolsForThought influencers use their tools only to produce TfT content – finest tool masturbation.
I feel less guilt about not using daily notes, avoiding MoCs, and keeping #OmniFocus & proper calendars around.

Question for #OKM, #RoamResearch, #ObsidianMD, #logseq, and #ReflectApp users...
Anyone using no or almost no tags? Anyone using no or almost no folders? What's the biggest friction you have? I use tags mostly to scope search. I.e. search all notes with this tag for this string. But wondering if it's necessary. Also wondering if I even need my status tags. I don't really use them...

Since the #logseq sync is not open source, what’s the difference from #roamresearch? An open sourced app with an not open sourced storage is not a satisfying solution.
