The #USNavy has finally shed the last two ship names that honored the Confederacy — & renamed one of them in honor of a man whose life story reads like an action movie hero. The USS Chancellorsville is now called the USS #RobertSmalls, the Black Union hero who stole a #Confederate steamer loaded with guns & delivered it to the Union #Navy, delivering himself & 16 other crew & their families from slavery.

Guided missile destroyer USS Chancellorsville was named after Confederate victory in Civil War was renamed USS #RobertSmalls. Born in SC in 1839 Smalls w conscripted in2 #Confederate military during #CivilWar, serving on steamer Planter at Charleston.
