Today’s listening is ‘Spooked’, the 2004 album by Robyn Hitchcock.

This album also features Gillian Welch and her musical partner David Rawlings.

A fairly typical RH album, this, with mostly acoustic tunes and Robyn’s characteristically ‘eccentric’ subject matter.

For example, in the song ‘English Girl’ he recounts the sad tale of a failed romance, disaster striking when he buys said girl an Almond Whirl, only for her to discover that it was ‘slightly off’.

Listening to Robyn Hitchcock - Invisible Hitchcock 'cause I'm the guy on a steady IV Robyn Hitchcock solution and have been for over 30 years.
Robyn cancelled his last tour abruptly and - it's so sad - his daughter Maisie I know has ovarian cancer but it has taken a turn for the worse. I can't imagine what he's feeling right now.
Anyway this album is half classics it is far better than a b-sides/odds & sods collection has any right to be.

This album finds Robyn Hitchcock in ‘full rock mode’ with his occasional collective known as The Venus 3, who were Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey and Bill Rieflin.

Typically odd lyrics from Mr Hitchcock and some good songs, with perhaps my favourites being the title track and ‘(A Man’s Gotta Know His Limitations) Briggs’.
