Awhile back I got a #rock64 with the intention of trying to use it as a machine to use for college work. I'm bad at getting things done, and thought having a different device would help. Also have a fascination with low powered hardware and thought it'd be cool.

Everything works perfectly well and feels very responsive even off an sd card. The only issue is hardware decoding isn't really supported. It's kind of surprising since the rock64 came out in 2017. Trying to find work arounds though.

i'm working on a first impressions article on the #PineBuds covering my personal experience after 3 full days of use, and i'm really impressed so far with them! i'm currently working on hosting my website on my #rock64 sbc, and will put up the article at hamblingreen.com when i get the self hosting situation sorted. i'll also toot here when that article goes live, it's been too long since my last full blog post.

Okay, ich merke schon - Jellyfin auf nem Rock64 macht nicht unbedingt viel Spaß.

Die Java App gibt ihm schon ordentlich zu tun. Mal sehen, ob sich das noch irgendwie einrenkt oder ob es eher anstrengend bleibt, um Webinterface zu navigieren.

An sich aber ne schöne Sache, dieses Jellyfin ... muss es noch ein bisschen testen.

on my #rock64 i plan on hosting a personal #nextcloud file serer, mail server with postfix/dovecot, and #sourcehut server. i plan on booting #archlinuxarm on it and i'm excited beyond belief. i should write out my self-hosting plans in a blog post

i just placed my second-ever order from the @PINE64 store, including a #rock64 and needed power supply and casing, a new #ppkb as mine has unfortunately stopped working long past its warranty period, a #pinedio pinephone add-on case, and a #pinepower desktop power supply. can't wait to recieve and start tinkering with my new toys!

hey @kelbot and any other #rock64 owners, have you upgraded an armbian distro to the latest kernel and if so have you had any problems?

the upgrade seems to disable the USB3 port and the only solution I've found so far is to downgrade

My main barrier to #selfhosting is a static ip. My ISP charges ~ $75/mo for it and without it some requests are going to fail until the dynamic DNS updates - and it seems my IP changes often.

For something only I use, that's fine, but not for hosting a community service.

So, I pay DigitalOcean $6/mo until I find a better VPS provider and my #Pine64 #Rock64 mostly idles 🤷

After my mainboard died I decided to go crazy and use my #Rock64 Pro again (prin64.org). What should I say ? Power consumption less than 20W and running like a clock ! Small is beautiful :D

I'm looking for recommendations for a terminal program to be run on Wayland.
I'm currently using 'foot' as that was automatically installed when I installed 'sway' window manager, but I don't have any attachments to it (as I have ~ no experience with it).

In so far it would matter, it'll run on a #Rock64 which only has limited graphics capabilities (OpenGL ES 1.1 and 2.0)
