The prairie is ancient-8000 years old, one of the last like it in IL. Endangered insects and plants still thrive there because of its ecosystem.

Rockford is a rust belt city that was hit hard in the 80's and never really recovered. It is now going through a bit of a renaissance. It is home to the Rockford Peaches as was made famous in "A League of Their Own"
