After way too long, I finally got the wifi on the #Rockpro64 #Gnome #Debian to work. This has been a miserable experience.
All the other times I had to fight with wifi were much easier in comparison.
I hope it was worth it….
In the process of updating/upgrading the #rockpro64
Switched to a 250gb micro sd for the boot drive. Currently installing #Debian Unstable/Sid/Testing.
After much doing some extensive reading, I am going to go with #Gnome DE as it has the best #Wayland support. I hope this works out well- Gnome DE is not my go to DE.
WAYLAND IS THE FUTURE :ageblobcat:
#rockpro64 #debian #gnome #wayland
Alrighty, lets see how ready Wayland is; Im going full Wayland on the #Rockpro64. Going with Debian unstable/Sid and Budgie as the DE.
Wish me luck y’all.
@benjaminhollon changed up the display manager on the #Rockpro64. As you can see it is not happy at the moment

I do this in jest, but let's see if my #sbc (@PINE64 #rockpro64) will make it through the #2YearLinuxchallenge
I think I found my happy place with #Debian #Trixie and #XFCE

I built a new #NetBSD 10.0_BETA today for my Pine64 #RockPro64. Don't forget to add the cooling fan to ./src/sys/arch/arm/dts/rk3399-rockpro64.dts file starting at line 113:
fan: pwm-fan {
cooling-levels = <0 100 150 200 255>;
};
Use build.sh to regenerate ./obj/destdir.evbarm/boot/dtb/rockchip:
./build.sh -U -u -j4 -O ../obj -m evbarm -a aarch64 kernel=GENERIC64 dtb
Copy new ./rockchip/rk3399-rockpro64.dts your device's /boot/rockchip/.
Enjoy!
So this weekend I think I will do a few tech related things:
1) set up #pihole on a Raspberry Pi Zero W that I have laying around
2) move my main pc from #Debian Stable to #Sid
3) More #Neofetch customizations (more likely in my main pc and #Rockpro64)
Yay for a 3 day weekend!
#pihole #debian #sid #neofetch #rockpro64
Woo hoo! I got my lil #RockPro64 swithed over to #Debian testing/unstable.

Since I like living on the edge, I moving the #RockPro64 from #Debian Stable to Debian Testing. #Trixie has been calling my name for a long while :partyparrot:
Being that I have become a #Debian dude, I spent the day moving my #Rockpro64 set up over to the Mighty D (insert childish giggling).
It was pretty smooth outside of getting the wifi working. All is good now.

I have been in a theming mood lately. Here is the new look and set up for the Rockbox

Im just chillin watching old #FMW matches on the Rockbox (that is what I am now calling my #rockpro64 in the NAS case 😉).
Since being back from sabbatical/“vacation”, I have:
1) Switched my main pc over to #Debian from Windows 11
2) Switched my kiddo’s all in one over to #SparkyLinux from Arch
3) Switched my @PINE64 #RockPro64 over to #TwisterOS from Batocera Linux
4) Been warned by my wife to not touch her laptop 🫠

The #OpenWrt setup for the #ROCKPro64 was super easy, just had to quickly iptable my laptop in order to download a kernel module for #solarflare, now the SFP card works like a charm and at least the first transceiver I found at hand did not complain about vendor lock.
I will later play around a bit more but first need to pick up some Cisco transceivers (for the other end) at the postal office.

It went for this to this! Now I can play my retro games on a SSD (more easily) bay-beeeeee!
Oh, and I now have active cooling to boot 😎

I also occasionally run a vanilla #minecraft server on the #rockpro64. It is tight on the 4GB of RAM, and performance is an issue under certain conditions.
I'm looking forward to the 16GB of RAM on the #rk3588 for this. I am hoping to be able to host modded servers without the performance constraints I had with #rk3399

I've been running a RockPro64 for several years as a very low power home server for docker containers like my own Gitlab, Plex, and Nextcloud instances.
The ITX-RK3588J is going to join the RockPro64 to form a 2 instance docker swarm cluster.
