After a weekend where I nearly threw my out of the window, it finally seems to have been worth it.
2 new disks running Raid1 (2 bay) and having cleaned up the apps and removed the old system disk - CPU no longer running at 100% - now see 3%-10% for the first time in years.
Got and up on my server but neither have so glad the QNAP is still working well after all. Moving away from and to keep it simple.
