He took films for what they were. Ebert didn’t think that everything had to be “high art” in order to be good. When he loved a #film he was effusive in praise, and when he hated one, his words could cut like a knife.

323 followers · 970 posts · Server mstdn.socialOn the anniversary of #RogerEbert’s death, I wanted to share this video of him responding to a white #film critic at the Sundance premiere of Justin Lin’s “Better Luck Tomorrow.” The critic scolded Lin for portraying Asian Americans negatively and this was Ebert’s response. #Diversity in film shouldn’t just perpetuate stereotypes - positive or negative. It’s allowing minorities to be shown as full people. Ebert got that and championed it.

It took me till 2022 to see this one. It's a true masterpiece and one of a kind! (but then again, aren't masterpieces always unique?)...
Here's Roger Ebert's view on the film with #burtlancaster - one of his finest performances, no doubt.
