This is the last of my 2022 #RomanWallWednesday posts, which have been celebrating the 1900th anniversary of the beginning of the construction of #HadriansWall in AD122. This is a classic view of the Wall riding the whin sill crags around #SycamoreGap in #Northumberland. #HadriansWall1900 @nationaltrust

#RomanWallWednesday. A Roman altar repurposed as the font in Haydon Old Church. I baptised the then vicar’s daughter at this font. Roman stones & artefacts are found in a number of churches on the line of, or close to, Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland & Cumbria. The Wall’s 1900th anniversary year is drawing to a close. So just one more Wednesday Wall image to come. #HaydonBridge

@sadgrove #RomanWallWednesday a slightly more leafy version of #SycamoreGap on #HadriansWall in #Northumberland from a visit up to my Mum earlier this year.

#RomanWallWednesday. Walkers gather at #SycamoreGap on #HadriansWall. A wintry view of this emblematic tree, for many, #Northumberland’s favourite.

#RomanWallWednesday: the Roman road Stanegate where it passes through the fort and town (vicus) of #Vindolanda a little south of Hadrian’s Wall.

#RomanWallWednesday. Arbeia Roman Fort in #SouthShields guarded the sea-entrance to the Tyne & access to #HadriansWall. The reimagined Commanding Officer's house sits on the original foundations & conveys a vivid and colourful sense of Roman power established on the edge of empire.

#RomanWallWednesday at #Brampton Old Church.
All that is left of a much larger 12th century church built on the site of a #Roman fort south of #HadriansWall. It was once the parish church of (not so nearby) Brampton in Cumbria. The North Pennines can be seen in the distance.

On Walltown crags where #HadriansWall clambers steeply up on to its whinstone ridge. Near Turret 45A, this section of the Wall is particularly well preserved with fine views westwards to the Solway plain.
