The 11th Century Saxon Rood (Cross) outside ‬⁩ in Hampshire. Above the crucified Christ, the hand of God is stretched out in acceptance and blessing of his self-offering in death. “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Romsey was a Saxon community of Benedictine nuns founded in the 10th century. Their church was rebuilt after the Norman Conquest but this magnificent Saxon Rood survived by the Abbess’s Door.
