A few weeks ago I asked about #Roon alternatives and got some great feedback.

I've recently come across #Funkwhale (which is on mastodon at https://fosstodon.org/@funkwhale ), anyone have any opinions?

I had no idea the fediverse had an option here. I want to use this for my own #music so it would be private, but I think I found myself a weekend project.

I found this quite interesting re: Apple Music's user experience. I've thought about giving the service a try in the past, but ultimately it's inability to play bit perfect from a Mac or Apple TV is a deal breaker. My Qobuz account is directly accessible within the #roon app (via my purpose built roon core machine to my DAC) which I'm not willing to give up. https://me.dm/@uxdesigncc/110869032532854325 #hifi

Anyone have good alternatives for #roon ?

I’ve had a subscription with them for 6 years now. Kinda getting tired of the cost:benefit ratio.

What I do like: Metadata, organization of the library contents, decent UI, mobile app support (Roon more than ARC, but ARC is ok)

What I don’t really need or like: Remote playing (controlling other speakers in the house), paying Tidal if I want good recommendations, kinda bloated and slow app

I’ve used plenty of #vlc , #foobar, #clementine / #strawberry, even #amarok back in the day

I’m really looking for any music solution that’s a little bit of a media manager w/metadata, especially if it can manage all that on a server.

I don’t mind paying for services, I’m just tired of the Roon bills on top of streaming services too.

Like - I want less than Roon but more than VLC.

Any recommendations?

I'm not sure how many albums I have that #HaroldVick performed on. I know it is a few, but since I no longer have an active #Roon subscription I am not sure. That is exactly the kind of thing that should be included in all #metadata, but that a tangent for another day. I do know I have only one album with Harold Vick headlining, Steppin' Out. It is brilliant #jazz album. I will need to get more albums that are listed under his name, headlining. And soon. #jazzmusic

Such a nice Friday night treat. I complete forgot I bought the recently released album from Modern Jazz Quartet, The Montreux Years (Live), and haven't listened to it yet. #NowPlaying, of course.

The make up of Modern Jazz Quartet changed a few times so I am not 100% certain which members are on this particular album. I did a search, but that info was not available. It would be good to know what year it was recorded. I'm certain Roon could tell me, if I still had #Roon.

Verstehe. Gefällt mir auch, nutze es allerdings selten, da #qobuz bei mir innerhalb von #roon läuft.
Die #qobuz App selbst nervt mit ihren #tracker einfach zu sehr.
