Came across this absolute gem (James Conant on #Rorty's #philosophy of #hope):
'So the concept of hope itself becomes important…because any of the things that might have brought us hope in their wake—truth, beauty, humanity—have been left out.'

Hope itself as the ultimate aim.

- that started in the “enlightened” West and now has spread everywhere.

The skeptical doubt that powers the feverishly anxious fascination with #chatgpt and really with any kind of #Frankenstein’s monster.

The inability to accept what #Kant taught us.

#Rorty fans, we have something for you. Here is the poster for the conference, at #ENS-PSL, in Paris, in December. Robert Brandom, Susan Dieleman, Richard Shusterman and many others! I'll share the program here, the Conference will be hybrid (in presence and Zoom).

Just came across Chris Voparil's excellent "Reconstructing Pragmatism: Richard Rorty and the Classical Pragmatists" and his wonderful 'Rorty's Pragmatic Maxim': choose the belief that increases hope.
My only tweak is that it is guided by Rorty's priority of hope over knowledge.
