Would quite like a drink. Unfortunately this ferry boards by bus, and I am sat waiting in a dreary terminal.
And I just spent my whisky/gin budget on that taxi.
And the 'duty free' border shop doesn't open until about 2300 when I plan to be asleep.

I have just spent €42 on a 20-minute taxi ride to a €13 ferry because the €48 train was delayed over an hour so I couldn't take the local tram+bus which is free with that train ticket.
I am of course happy that I am at the ferry in time. But that still f-ing hurts.

The first rule of long distance European train travel is: if things start to look tight, don't waste your phone battery* on updating social media.

Good news for anyone who thought #RostockAndTwoMinsInBrussels had peaked too soon.
Due to a person seen on the track near Dortmund, we are currently going nowhere. My connection in Hamburg has probably collapsed but there is a later train that can still get me to the boat on time.

Geeky train booking advice, for anyone arriving by Eurostar into Bruxelles.
The quickest, least walking, option is to sit as far forward as your ticket allows.
You can change your seat after booking, using the Eurostar app or website.
This advice also applies for making connections, whilst the subway shortcut is closed. That's going to be for some time; looks like they are rebuilding for post-Brexit customs.

Six minutes from train door to train door, without using the handy connections subway. (I had banked on using that, when I had picked a seat in Eurostar carriage 8, the middle of the train.)

Bit of confusion at the UK Border. Any ideas why UK gov sends its citizens through both a manual passport check and then also an e-gate? Does it just want another pic of my face?
Anyways, bed to sat waiting in departures within 20 minutes suits me. The longest queue here is the people shopping at Pret, but I have food with. Not making the Eurostar baguette mistake again.
