The #Vermeer special exhibition reminds me of how much I loved seeing the #Rothko special exhibition in #PDX because for me, finding one or two paintings and having time to sit with them is the only interesting part of museums. But I have rooms to go before I sleep so maybe I'll change my mind

Mark Rothko, ( b. 1903, Dvinsk, Russia—d. 1970, New York City, N.Y., U.S.), American painter whose works introduced contemplative introspection into the melodramatic post-World War II Abstract Expressionist school; his use of colour as the sole means of expression led to the development of Colour Field Painting.
Hard to see at first. They are only what they are. Colour. They are usually quite large. To stand in front of one means that your area of sight is full.

took my mama out for an abstract expressionism exhibition tonight. i went primarily for Pollock, Rothko and Frankenthalen, but there were several other remarkable pieces (if i may call a 2x4m painting a "piece" 😁).
i don't think they displayed #Rothko as he wanted his painting displayed but at least there was a bench! i hoped to get the same intense emotional experience as i had last time i saw his paintings many years ago but it wasn't quite there.
still good collection of #art though.
