#Polari first came about in the theatre and the #gay #subculture in #Britain in the 1950s and 1960s.
Born largely out of a need for discretion in a potentially hostile environment, it provided a convenient shorthand for #LGBTQ communication and was popularised by #KennethWilliams in the #BBC #radio #comedy show #RoundTheHorne during the 1960's.
