The lead-ship of her class of six #protectedcruisers built for the #RoyalNetherlandsNavy, #HNLMSHolland was launched on 4 October 1896
Holland spent her career in the #NetherlandsEastIndies. During the #BoxerRebellion of 1900, along with other Dutch #warships, she safeguarded Dutch and European interests in Shanghai. She again safeguarded European citizens during the fall of Imperial China in 1911.
