First was an excellent event on understanding non-survey data quality at the #RoyalStatisticalSociety. There are lots of good talks here on the systematic differences between digital trace data and #surveys, although the focus on #Twitter (this is from September) is likely to be less relevant moving forward. It was great to be able to talk to the #YoungStatisticians section of the #RoyalStatisticalSociety #RSS today, giving tips on how to plan and deliver a great rapid fire talk.

First was an excellent slate of talks on panel conditioning in longitudinal #survey #data by Ruben Bach, Fabienne Kraemer, and @floriankeusch at the #RoyalStatisticalSociety. As participants experience data collection through multiple rounds, it can change their attitudes and behaviors leading to biased estimates, and the important work presented here explores this phenomenon. Next was a fascinating talk by Ioannis Kaloskampis on using shipping #data for real time economic activity analysis at the #RoyalStatisticalSociety. I suspect a lot of folks in investment banking are already doing this, but the detailed description of how to calculate these indicators was incredible, and indicates how alternative metrics can provide more timely, accurate metrics than traditional econ stats. Next was a short talk by Renyuan Xu on simulating tail risk scenarios with an eye to supplementing model training data at the #RoyalStatisticalSociety. Last was an interesting talk from Maggie Chen on the behavioral fingerprints of #Bitcoin traders at the #RoyalStatisticalSociety.
