Cover art. I really need to find an artist and am having a hard time locating one. Part of it is money (the price of art is reasonable, my income is not.)
The other part is finding someone who's style fits

Last night I wrote a pretty large essay on how to frame an endeavor in Applesauce, and ... it was good. Felt like a space alien wrote it, but, a _nice_ space alien.
Hammondal is really the last place I should be thinking _experimentally,_ given that it's my homage to a meat-and-potatoes kind of book that's been done a hundred times and that I absolutely I love in its customary forms ... But things keep bubbling up. As they do. 🤔
Learn from my mistakes!

Hitting that part of the book where I have to stare down the difference between the number of random tables I make, and the number of random tables I will inflict on the reader.
It's bleak, but reflective.
I would love to post more about negative lessons in game design, but when I do, I have to abstract them, because every work I regard as a mediocrity (maybe 99.85% of all RPG books of all eras) is someone else's beloved favorite, and there's no benefit the resulting bad feelings.
So I do this lopsided thing where I celebrate the books that teach me positive lessons and go silent on the rest 😅 But, both kinds of lesson are hugely valuable.

As a game designer and GM, I am perpetually fascinated by how we can port city/colony builder logic to dungeons and treat them as dynamic systems. Everything from the Ogres feuding with the Goblins in Keep on the Borderlands, to the warring factions in Blades in the Dark, offer us a brilliant tool for creating these living worlds full of emergent complexity. #ttrpg #indierpg #rpgdesign
This is a re-run from last December but it's probably due for a dusting-off. What's a High-Trust Trad adventure? It's this. 😊

Ok, so I'm digging more into world building for a project and a have a couple questions for a sensitivity reader or someone similar regarding some terminology that I'm trying to settle on in regards to an Islam adjacent religion and north Africa adjacent region in this alt-history/fictionalized type world.
Is that anyone out here might be able to weigh in on?

I start every book with a small core of self-imposed rules and compass-points, and as the book comes to life, those get softened and turned, and sometimes replaced, and I never know which ones will stand by the end.
I really did think my 'two-pages max for any topic not specific to the city' rule would hold for Hammondal, but maybe not. There is one extramural topic that _might_ get 3 or 4 pages. Ah well. 😅
I'll still keep it lean, but maybe not 2pp of lean.
