@Canageek I do something similar with an #RPi3 and #OSMC . You'd want a TV with an HDMI port.

These days I had recalled to take care of my dust-eating #rpi3 (#FreeBSD 13.0) as wifi ap and multiple proxy services in the corner. :)

13.0-RELEASE is unsupported and it was taking long process to upgrade. I had to upgrade it to 13.0-RELEASE-p13. Then tonight I will upgrade it to 13.1 (while I think the easiest way is to reinstall it ? -- 12-factor and Clould Native way? XD)

- backup extern opslaan.
- instellen boot vanaf usb, daarna SD.
- 500GB SSD aan de usb gehangen met verse #homeassistant
- booten
- wachten 🍷
- grr ff prutsen met DHCP server (was gereserveerd)
- restore from backup
- up & running in ~30 minuten.

Volgens mij is de keuze nu al duidelijk. Exit #Domoticz, welcome #HomeAssistant.

Eerste avond op een #RPi3 met 64GB kwaliteitskaart. De webdiensten lezen zich makkelijk in, nu nog wachten op die P1 kabel. #knutselen

@emacsen No, not using the WebUI at all, the native Kodi UI. The interface is probably more slick on a more commercial product, but I'd say that it works perfectly at playing movies, TV, etc. from DisneyPlus, #Netflix and #CBC . And this is running on an #RPi3 I got five years ago, not a new device.

I also run the #Plex plugin on #Kodi to watch the DVDs I've ripped. You wouldn't want to run the server and the viewer on the same #RPi3 though; maybe with an #RPi4 .

My #rpi3 now becomes less useful since i have #pinephone, except one app: signal-cli. Plus hosting a temp wifi ap.

One dragging point of rpi is that it has to be shutdown and boot up again every time i move from place to another.

Me use a ralink usb dongle on my #rpi3 running #freebsd.
Previously failed perhaps because of my wifi ap or invalid password.

I've been running #Kodi on a #RPi3 for about a year; we also got an Amazon #FireStick for Christmas. The main use is to watch videos via #Plex , since I have a media server elsewhere in the house.

In terms of functionality, it seems that the Fire Stick has an edge, insofar as the Kodi Plex #addon does not show the live TV or access to the movies Plex streams. In general, the Kodi addons seem less polished and complete than those on the Fire Stick.

And this is with Leia; how are Matrix addons?

Now I'm running #weechat on a remote #RPI3 for my IRC needs... maybe I should switch to #ERC (#emacs #irc client)?

I finally bought the 8GB #RPi4 because I was sick of OOMkiller being lazy and not terminating Firefox when a tab had a memory leak.

My current Pi situation is:
· #RPi3 running my #PiHole and #samba server with my music files and fonts
· Spare Pi4 (4GB): this is the one I'm looking for a use for
· Pi4 (8GB) for desktop use
· Superannuated MacBook Pro stuck on El Cap (for when I need a Mac app and has my family photo archive)

The other complication is that the best outlet for continually-on electronics is on the opposite end of my room from the outlet by my desk which is connected to the room's #lightswitch. Do they make USB and HDMI cables long enough for me to stack all 3 Pi in the back of my room and run a USB cable to a hub at my desk?

Finally got around to installing Kodi after being aware of it for about 15 years. Now runnin on #rpi3 with a touch screen like the Chumby I always wanted

Got a newer version of the 5.4 kernel and guess what?
Yeah, audio/alsa broke again 😡
Did some searching for a solution, but didn't find it.

So I did something which I've wanted to do for a while:
Install pure #Debian on it.
DL-ed an image from https://raspi.debian.net/ put it on a SD card and booted up the #RPi3 ... and had working audio on a Debian Stable arm64 system \o/ \o/

Upgraded everything to Bullseye which went pretty quick as the image is really minimal.
Kernel: 5.7.0-3-arm64

Important note: this is/must've been on a different #RPi3 as there is no pulseaudio on my rpi-mpd device.

... and then you get a kernel upgrade, 4.19 -> 5.4, and everything changes. Again.
*sigh*

Previously you needed to use
dtparam=audio=on
but now you need to disable that.
I'm now only using "dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d" (and a gpu_mem setting) and applied https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1636828&sid=b28703c79ba523a782aca99123fbf3af#p1636828 and that brought back a usable alsa device 'vc4hdmi'. Disabling "hw:0,0" in mpd.conf and I had sound back.
Probably need to change more as playing multi-channel audio only used 3 of my 4 speakers ...
