Maybe the last #RSDBF post for now...
The Doors - Paris Blues
It's a bunch of their blues recordings. The highlight is the track "Paris Blues." I forget the exact story. The recording had a sonic problem that made it unreleasable. New technology allowed them to make it sound OK.
The Doors' original engineer, Bruce Botnick, has continued to work on their reissues, so I assume he did this one too.
These Motown reissues are notable this #RSDBF because they are being reissued by another label associated with Zev Feldman. He's known as an excellent jazz reissue producer and started moving into R&B and blues around a year ago.
There probably have been crappy pirated editions of these records because they are public domain in the EU. Unlike the bootleggers, Zev would have had access to high resolution copies of the masters if not the tapes themselves.
These Motown titles by Smokey Robinson, The Supremes, The Four Tops, and Martha & The Vandellas are worth your attention on #RSDBF because they will be nicely done. There probably have been crappy EU public domain pressings. These were done by someone who would have had access to (at least) high resolution copies of the master tapes if not the tapes themselves.
The producer of these, Zev Feldman, is better known for jazz. This year he started moving into R&B and blues.
Not much to say about #ToddRundgren's #RSDBF release. It's cut at 45pm so 4 discs are necessary.
It includes an essay by Paul Myers, who really knows his Todd stuff.
More #RSDBF
#SkipJames - The Complete 1931 Sessions
This is the kind of blues that is so beautiful and sad it will make you cry.
These recordings probably have been bootlegged a million times. This release is as good as you're going to get because it's being released by ORG. Their co-owner/producer Andrew has very high standards. I have a bunch of ORG titles and they all are stellar. Great label.
Now for some #jazz coming on #RSDBF
Jaco Pastorius - Truth, Liberty & Soul - Live In NYC: The Complete 1982 NPR Jazz Alive! Recording
This is on Reconance Records, and produced by one of the best jazz reissue producers of my generation, Zev Feldman.
I'm not familiar with the recordings but it's Jaco and it's Zev, and it was cut by Kevin Gray. Essential for jazz fans.
