Gave up on #gnus and #rss2email for reading mastodon toots (mostly #hashtag lists) and switched to #elfeed. I wanted the scoring etc. that gnus gives me but it just didn't gel. elfeed does work very well and allows me to combine #fediverse with blog feeds easily for quick browsing.

One problem with toots is that they don't have titles unfortunately.

I have been using #rss2email to retrieve toots from specific accounts and #hashtags. Works quite well but, for some toots, the email has only the image description/annotation as the contents of the email. The actual text of the toot is nowhere to be found in the email sent. Anybody else seen this?

@garjola I'm using #rss2email to get toots with particular hashtags, e.g. #emacs, as emails. No threading unfortunately.

@lproven I'm playing around with #rss2email to get hashtag toots into #gnus. Working relatively well so far. Having to preprocess the emails (using nnmail-prepare-incoming-hook) to make the From field more useful. Adaptive scoring turned on so we'll see if gnus adapts well to my interests!

@thaodan @viz @Cmastication @sachac So, I've tried out #rss2email (and boy did that send me down a rabbit hole... needing to get local email to work on my system) and it does a much nicer job than nnrss in #gnus. In particular, it uses the first 70 characters of a toot as the subject line. No author but the link to the toot is there in the message body.

#emacs tip: To read popular tags you can subscribe to https://Instance/tags/Tagname.rss via #rss2email, then use #gnus scoring system to avoid unnecessary flaming noise.

@JohannesStarke Die wenigen Feeds, die ich noch lese, wandle ich mit #rss2email in Mails um. Damit kann ich meine eh vorhandene Mail-Infrastruktur auch für Feeds benutzen (mit Filterregeln nach Bedarf).

Maybe a stateful service provider could do both, with a different approach and bizmod...

Oh, events.ccc.de hat ein neues Layout. Und offenbar auch einen neuen #RSS-Feed... und #RSS2Email hat mir sämtliche Blogeinträge neu zugestellt... bzw. es zumindest versucht, nach rund 800 Mails hat der Mailserver erst mal die Reißleine gezogen...

Nachdem föderierte Systeme gerade auf dem aufsteigenden Ast zu sein scheinen würde ich mir wünschen, dass auch die guten alten #rss-#feeds nicht in Vergessenheit geraten.
