Did you know that Rubens' famously abundant #women were modeled after #horses?

Women should have firm & fleshy buttocks & a small stomach, with plump thighs & a long, broad neck - that's what he wrote in his notes.

That's also how he described horses.

And like horses, he believed women to be vain & absorbed in their own silhouettes.

This large oil painting (11.6 ft x 16.1 ft or 355.5 cm x 493 cm) by the Flemish Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens was painted in 1609 and later gave a major reworking between 1628 and 1629 during his second trip to Spain. It is now in the Museo del Prado in Madrid.
