This I'm pretty sure is a ruby-throated hummingbird (Archilochus colubris), I took the photo late afternoon or early evening the sun was in a non-optimal position from where I was standing. But I kind of like the way it turned out. It has kind of a minimalist feel to it. I'm also pretty sure that this is a male.

This male ruby-throated hummingbird looks fierce, doesn't he? This photograph is very slightly overexposed, which accounts for the lack of texture on the wall behind the bird's tail. I also had the shutter speed a little slower than I normally do when photographing hummingbirds, but the wing blur gives a sense of motion.

What! Another hummingbird pic?

I actually wanted to post a picture I took today of two hummingbirds. But then I snapped this one that really shows of the iridescent feathers. I'm not sure about the sex, the dark area on could be markings or a young male or it could be just shadow. I'm going with young male, feel free to correct if you know better.

I cropped this in quite a bit to show off the tail feathers of this ruby throated hummingbird. I don't think I have another photograph of one of these birds with tail feathers spread out like this. At first, I thought that this is a female ruby throated hummingbird. But after looking closer, I noticed the red under the base of the beak. So, I think that this is a juvenile male ruby throated hummingbird. I had a more interesting photo of this bird that I want to post, but it didn't give a good view of the bird's throat, I'll save it for another time.

I wanted to share this photograph of this little guy. He is a ruby-throated hummingbird and the self-proclaimed monarch of the hummingbird feeders. Seen here, he is sitting atop a shepherd's hook guarding the bird feeders. Notice that he still has sugar water dripping from his beak.

Going for the throat.

This is another image of the same male ruby-throated hummingbird that I posted a little bit ago. This one gives us a look at his ruby throat hence his name. I should note that only the males have this coloring. Females are mostly emerald all over. The emerald color can be iridescent in sunlight. It's quite stunning.

This bird positioned himself on the opposite side of the feeder and would only come into view for brief periods. Then I blinked and he was gone.

Beamed down from the heavens.

This is the first ruby-throated hummingbird that I've seen this year. It was visiting a hummingbird feeder I set up a few days ago. When I saw the photo, I couldn't help to think it looked like it was in a heavenly light. Maybe, this is a photo for a show like "Paranormal Caught on Camera." 😂 What is really going on is that there is an out-of-focus down spout from a gutter directly behind the bird. I couldn't help but want to post this, I have a better photo that I'll post in a little while. OBTW this is a little male.

Ruby-Throated Hummingbird

This is a female ruby throated hummingbird. It's a pretty good view of its front, though its unfortunate that the photo doesn't show off the almost iridescent emerald feathers, probably because of the angle of light. That's okay, I'll post more of these for sure. I haven't been able to take many photos of these birds anywhere but at the hummingbird feeders. This was taken in the fall; I suppose they should be back here any time. I need to get my hummingbird feeders ready.
