Welp, been AWOL for a bit. Was tapering a couple of weeks ago, then got bogged down with not feeling well. Finally getting back into the habit this week, albeit slowly and lightly. First hill repeats day today, and it felt OK - better than I anticipated, anyway.

800m repeats this morning. Bit of a warming trend coming this week, but plenty of icy spots to be found pre-sunrise. Was originally aiming for 6 rounds of 800m with 200m rest in between, but settled for 4 just due to timing - forgot I had an appointment with the barber first thing before work.
Was still nice to get out in some warmer air and feel the sun.

Been a busy week and haven’t been on the site for a few days, but I’ve still been running!
1. Easy run on Tuesday which completed my Winter Warriors challenge through my local Fleet Feet.
2. Progression Run with lots of hills on Wednesday.
3. Easy run today.
Waiting to see what this Arctic blast does on Saturday before I run, not keen on running when the windchill could have us down around -25 F (~ -31 C). We’ll see.
Ended up having to work a day this weekend, so I swapped my long run/recovery run days- recovery yesterday and long run today. I felt really good on the long run today, just in a good flow state. Even though the week didn’t go as expected, it was a nice surprise to have today go as well as it did.
Slowly getting that mileage up.

Easy 5k this morning. Still getting used to my new routine (shorter runs on certain days), but it allows me time to do some strength training afterwards.
Also got in a little over 20 minutes with the kettlebells, and the combination of the two made me super hungry. Big bowl of oatmeal for me this morning!

It's been a while since I've done 800m interval repeats. I knew I was getting back into tougher territory, so I gave myself plenty of warmup time, but probably took it too easy on the rests between intervals. Definitely something I'll be tweaking over the coming weeks, but nice to know I can still run fairly fast!

Busy weekend, but still got in my runs. Finally feeling like I’m back in shape after about a six month struggle to get back on track. Feeling like I’ll be settling into a 30 mile/week routine for a while for the sake of time/life, but it’s a good spot for me.

Easy hour this morning. There’s some rain/freezing rain moving in today, so the sunrise was pretty vivid.
The humidity made it feel much warmer than the air temperature, so I overdressed for sure. Still had a great run, and it was a much needed pick-me-up.

Oh, how I didn’t want to run today. The bed was so warm and my pillow was so soft. My mind told me “you can take a day off”, and I almost listened. But then I remembered how I just feel off when I don’t run, especially when I’ve set an intention to do so the day prior. So, I slowly put on all my running gear and went out for some intervals. And wouldn’t you know it, I feel better now.

Lots of wind today. 20-25mph gusts for most of the day, making it feel about 10 degrees cooler.
Haven’t run this trail in over a year, so it was nice to get back and see it again. Still working on reminding myself to take it slow. Plenty of hills today, so those will force you to slow down no matter what.

Snowy run this morning. Quite dark at the start, so I dusted off my headlamp. The snow started quite nicely, then turned icy for a bit toward the end. As per usual, the wind decided to aim the icy bits toward my face.
Progression run: 5 min warmup in Zone 1, 25 minutes in Zone 2, 8 minutes at Steady-state, 4 minutes at lactate threshold, 2 minutes at critical velocity, and 5 minute cooldown in Zone 1.

I’ve been taking it a little slower the past couple of weeks, but it’s been wonderful to get to a point of being in a flow. The cold is settling in this week, but not too bad yet. Today I got lost in the clouds.

Really didn’t feel like running today, but went for it anyway. Told myself that a run under an hour is worth it because it doesn’t impact my day. Surprised myself by moving at a decent pace for how I was feeling, then pretty stoked on my cadence after the fact. I’m moving a little slower than I have over the past year or so, but my mechanics seem to be vastly improved. Followed up with about 30mins of strength training with kettlebells.
