Luna Moth on a stump beside the trail in Saint Mary's Wilderness. When we passed it outbound, it was still unfurling wings, just hatched from the chrysalis. By the time we came back an hour later, it was ready to fly.

Scottsville, Virginia
Behind an antebellum home now owned by a friend, is a whole separate house. The two are so close you can converse from one window to another across the divide. But the owners lived in the front house, and the owned lived in the back one.
When our friends learned the history after moving in, they restored both.

Old barn at what was a rural steamboat landing on the Chesapeake Bay. Farmers and fisherfolk and artisans would store their wares here until the steamboats picked up along with passengers on the way to Baltimore or Norfolk.

Up the hillside across the pasture in the previous post is this grand old white oak. The branches shade an area a hundred feet in diameter. These are double hammocks, big enough for two.
Lately, a local black bear has been opening cars and going into houses at night. It knows how doorknobs work.
