Earlier this week, Moskvitch ("The Muscovite") magazine reported, that a new profession has emerged in Russia, so-called "Slaves of death":
"Today there are only a few dozen people, mostly women. But the era itself has made death and grief central figures in culture and society, which means that interest in them is inevitably growing. Along with it, there is a growing demand for assisted dying and for the knowledge, skills and abilities to do this work".
Meanwhile, "In Russia, prices for coffins and grave digging have skyrocketed", — Fontanka.ru reports.

"In Stavropol Krai, parents fought off their son when the authorities came to mobilise him. While the mother and father were fighting with the local police officer, the conscript just ran away from home. The policeman's neck was injured, and the parents will probably end up with a criminal case".
Good parenting!
Peter Pomeranzev in @spectator:
"Russian media, military and officials boast openly of their genocidal intention in Ukraine and revel in their war crimes: just this week Russian soldiers posted a video of themselves casually executing a Ukrainian PoW as he stood defenceless in some woods. They want to show the world that they can act with impunity and that all the concepts that tried to tame evil with justice are meaningless." (01/02)
Russia’s Halfway to Hell Strategy
Often, the Kremlin has initially appeared to take a maximalist course. Yet many of these moves have been considerably less severe in practice than they seem on paper. ...this partial approach to total war is not haphazard, nor is it simply the result of failed execution. Instead, Russia appears to be pursuing a deliberate strategy aimed at both the West and its own population.

Some Facebook user reminded me of the Esthetic Education — a great progressive/jazz/indie-rock ensemble from Ukraine. It's swiss-born vocalist is a husband of Russian actress Dina Korzun, who plagued Russian-speaking media as she returned to Russia after almost 30 years abroad because of "Russophobia" and other sins of London.
The band's song are sounding very much differently 19 years later. For example, this one is called "War":
Fontanka.ru, a legendary Saint Petersburg's city media, interviewed a pro-government Russian performer with blond dreadlocks, who strive to promote "traditional", "orthodox" Russian values under the stage name Shaman. The headline of the article quotes the performer and goes like that:
"The microphone in your trousers is a life safety measure for the artist".
SOTAVision: Police in St Petersburg detain those who bring flowers to the monument to Taras Shevchenko
They ask for a passport and inquire who Shevchenko is. This is the kind of dialogue our correspondent caught:
- Do you even know who Taras Shevchenko is?
- A writer...
- Well, a writer, and what else? He is also a member of the terrorist movement.

(2/2) "Exactly! The sun rises - and I begin to give thanks!" — Mikhail Degtyarev insisted. "And how many sunny days a year in Khabarovsk Krai?" - I asked just in case. "310!" - Instantly, the governor responded.
That is, perhaps, the fact that 55 days a year, Mikhail Degtyarev does not thank the President for this good fortune is important here.

(1/2) "You know," Mikhail Degtyarev, governor of Khabarovsk Krai, told me, "the sun is rising - and I thank Vladimir Vladimirovich for this happiness - to be governor of Khabarovsk Krai!" — "Were there any other options?" - I asked."Of course," the governor said frankly, "Kursk, Ulyanovsk... But Khabarovsk is everything! I hope to be allowed to work in that capacity until 2041!" — "In other words, four terms?" - I frantically calculated.
"Europe is doing rather well, but somehow that does not make it feel any better", — Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reports.
