"Gracie Mae Bradley speaks to Ruth Wilson Gilmore. Often dismissed or set aside as a US-based movement, Gracie and Ruth sit down together to explore how we can think about the histories, legacies and politics of abolition in the British context and beyond. They map how local instances of political organising express themselves globally, as well as interrogating how past struggles express themselves in the present."

Ruth Wilson Gilmore: “Where life is precious, life is precious.”

"So let’s put our heads into prison for a moment and say, “What are they made of?” They’re made of land, they’re made of labor, they’re made of money capital, and they’re made of the state’s capacity to organize land, labor, and money capital that way. That’s what they’re made of. And the labor is both the labor that builds the buildings, the labor that tends the buildings — the disqualified labor that is the prisoners. [...] All that is the prison. Now then we ask ourselves, “Well, how is it possible for all of these resources, what we will call factors of production, to be organized in that way? How is that possible? Why not organize them into housing projects or dams or roads or highways or ports?”

"But the truth is that no one is healthy, because what health actually is, is something that encompasses way beyond the individual's own bodily state, and it encompasses things like feeling psychically safe and secure, like having clean air and clean water, having housing that's not commodified so heavily that three quarters of your income goes to your housing, counts as I think, a social determinant of health. And this is why your work and Engels' work are such touchstones for us, because it really sort of thinking through the ways that health becomes kind of like a mode of production,"*

@abolitionbb Thanks for the disclosure.

Curious to hear your favorite takeaways from and

I'll have to read more about

I often think of Kaba's assertion that when I get overwhelmed from doing too much

Kaba posted the following questions on another platform and it's been a really helpful approach toward understanding sociopolitical issues and holding myself accountable for the ways I show up in the movement space

Repost from

Questions I ask myself when outraged about injustice:
1. What resources exist so I can better educate myself?
2. Who's already doing work around this injustice?
3. Do I have the capacity to offer concrete support & help to them?
4. How can I be constructive?
