Yikes. #HurricaneIdalia made it to category 4 status overnight with wind speeds of 130 mph. It'll make landfall today between Tallahassee and Gainesville. The track still keeps it well south of Virginia, so again, not much, if any, rain for us from it as it moves northeast then due east. We will however see some breezy conditions for #RVA and areas south southeast, especially Thursday morning through early afternoon, and temperatures only in the 70s.

Rainy start to the day around central #Virginia, most of these light to moderate showers are west and south of #RVA for now but might make their way to the 95 corridor a little later.

Tropical Storm Idalia is forecast now to become a category 3 hurricane prior to landfall over the "bend" of the western coast of Florida, with winds of 115 mph. The track keeps nearly all the rain well south/southeast of Virginia so no rain for us unfortunately.

I can't help but to feel frustrated when the easiest and cheapest option to go #RVA <> Washington, DC for a flight is by car, and not Amtrak.

Had we chosen the Amtrak it would have required an overnight stay in DC because our flight gets into DC after the last train leaves. Only three options per day isn't enough.

I love Amtrak, but the deficiencies in major transit interconnections make me sad.

Couple of showers/light t-storms this morning around South Hill/Emporia/Chase City, over to Charlottesville and Gordonsville. Most of this is going to stay south of Petersburg; not expecting much around #RVA and areas north. Better chance of more widespread showers and storms tomorrow afternoon.

Saw news on the local birding group that a limpkin was hanging out at a county park. Limpkins live in FL and South GA, not sure what he is doing in Richmond, VA, but I was happy to have the chance to check him out.
