Hot tip: occasionally replace the blades in your saws and bits in your drills. If you are still riding with the original blade that came with your #ryobi saw that you bought 8 years ago, it’s time to replace that blade.

I have a #Ryobi #battery that refuses to charge. After many months of ignoring the problem and not using this battery, I decided to open it up and see what’s inside.

There are 5 security screws, one of which is hidden by a plastic plug. The plug is made of hard plastic, so I managed to mangle it enough while trying to pry it out that I won’t bother reinstalling it when I’m done. #electronics

Cordless tool shelf is done. I made a plan, I didn't proceed until I was confident. I was patient, I tested as I went. It took too long to make, but I am happy with the results. It wasn't a complicated project, but I executed. I have a second one to make for more convoluted cordless tools, but it should come together easier with expiernce. #woodworking #ryobi

There are some companies that do better here than others. I don't know snowblowers from whoopie cushions, but #Ryobi is one company that has retained tool-battery compatibility (for their 18V line) for decades. Supposedly you can take a 25-year-old drill designed for NiCad batteries and plug in a new Lithium-Ion and it Just Works.

Their 40V range (for bigger equipment like lawn mowers) does not share this heritage and is not as quite as solid, in my experience.

I gave up on petrol mowers years ago. Even the mighty Victa was unreliable - never ran properly, smoked (4 stroke!), and did a poor job. We don't have much lawn, so I switched to a push mower. No motor and a rotating "cylinder" blade. It was always a good workout, and worked well, as long as you kept on top of it. Long grass was its nemesis. Dear reader, I never kept on top of it. Grass grows. 🤷‍♂️ Every mow was a battle, muscles vs long grass/weeds. Muscles usually lost.

Why subject myself to this? Because I'm tight? Nods.

Today I finally stared myself down and am now the owner of a battery powered (effectively solar) lawn mower! What a revelation! Plenty of charge for my small patch, no smoke, a much better job than petrol, and much faster and better physically than push. 10 mins, all done. What long grass?

I bought the 800 watt power inverter after suffering through 9 days with no power when Hurricane Ida came through. Now I can charge my batteries using my car battery if need be and use it to charge phones, laptops and other devices.

Nachdem an meinem Ryobi Laubsauger eines der vorderen Räder konstruktionsbedingt abgebrochen war, habe ich selbst eine Halterung konzipiert und gedruckt. Der erste Versuch (Übernahme der Art der Befestigung vom Original) hat leider nicht lange überlebt, aber das vereinfachte zweite Modell leistet mir jetzt gute Dienste.
