Louis Jones from NomCom: Only 18% of eligible voters cast a ballot in the SAA leadership election. This is a little lower than normal but within general range of historical values. #saa23
The National Disaster Recovery Fund for Archives silent auction raised over $4,000!!!!! (Let’s have more crocheted possums next year and I bet that number will skyrocket 😘) #saa23
Sharmila Bhatia (SAA treasurer) sharing financial updates. Some surprising but important points in these updates. One is that demand for online learning/professional development has decreased significantly in the last year and demand for in-person professional development is increasing. #saa23
Hello from the #saa23 business meeting. This year’s in-person attendance (over 1,300 people) almost doubled compared with in-person attendance in Boston.
It is such a tremendous, overwhelmingly beautiful gift to feel as loved and valued as I have at #saa23 this year. My first SAA was in this same city in 2010, it has really meant a lot to me this week to be surrounded by people who have seen me grow and change and transform from a baby archivist to who I am today. What an honor to be part of such a special community 💚
In the time between leaving for dinner and getting back to the hotel, the sky has gotten noticeably darker. Thunderstorm incoming! #saa23
Watching people create a *third* local recommendations thread on the #SAA23 conference app feels like a great case study in the need for authority control

Now entering: #saa23 #s401, Ethical Accessioning for access. Hope someone will be talking about institutional records! #NotBiased
having michelle caswell, emily drabinski, and dean spade as a plenary panel was a nice surprise for #saa23
I am grateful to #SAA23 for offering a virtual option, but yesterday there was no video for one session and today there's no audio for another. This is... not ideal.
In case you packed a jumpsuit for #saa23 I am hereby declaring tomorrow Jumpsuit Friday and I will be wearing my very special jumpsuit tomorrow. Hint: 🌿
At #saa23 session 302: Searching for the Commons. An emerging thought - do we need another dramatic reappraisal of our work like MPLP 15+ years ago? In a digital context where online users should be treated on par with in-person users, is there work we should de-emphasize in order to do more in other areas? In other words, what is the equivalent of item-level processing in a digital discovery and access context.
Not library-specific, but our new contract, in addition to raises and other new protections, has 12 weeks full pay parental leave on top of NYs 12 weeks partial pay. Hopefully we can all build on the advances of other unions #saa23 #s301 https://uupinfo.org/communications/uupdate/230614.php
