I finally got around to transcribing my notes from last year's #SacGamersExpo panel with Kosono Okina (lead developer of the original #SuperMarioMaker). I think it'd be cool to share, but I'm thinking I should probably get her permission first.
One thing I thought was super interesting was in response to an audience question (from me lol) asking her thoughts on the non-photorealistic 3D in games like Guilty Gear. She responded by saying that visuals were never a priority at Nintendo, and that the first priority was gameplay. That's something I expected. What surprised me was that the second priority was *a fast loading time*. Visuals came after that.
