@FrChazzz I would agree that #marriage isn’t a #sacrament to us the way that it is to Catholics. But that doesn’t mean that the only alternative is that it’s something “we came up with.” While it has taken different forms based on culture and legal systems, marriage is something God created and the basic elements of it, the intent and pattern of it, are found in #scripture. It is never same-sex in the Bible, always hetero. I would say that marriage is #ordained.

5/ And if Christian marriage, as a #sacrament (and as articulated by #Aquinas), involves the couple offering up their bodies as mutually-received sacrifices, transformed into "one flesh" and as a locale for the Holy Spirit to work God's grace—reflecting the work of God in the #eucharist—then we have to consider if a same-sex union is consistent with that teaching. It is my conviction that it is.

A Dutch priest and personal friend, @fatherroderick provides a wonderful answer to those who question why Catholics confess their sins to a priest. Here's the segment from his most recent podcast he calls “The Break with Fr. Roderick": http://u.pc.cd/zkYctalK
You can listen to the entire episode here: https://www.fatherroderick.com/fatherroderick/my-favorite-tv-shows-of-2022/
If you’re interested in learning more about the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation (confession), you can do so in the Catechism of the Catholic Church: http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p2s2c2a4.htm
Two key points about confession that Father doesn't mention:
1) It's required for Catholics for the forgiveness of mortal sin, a grave action performed with full knowledge of its gravity and with the full consent of the will. Committing a mortal sin breaks our relationship with God.
Here is an article on mortal sin containing a rather comprehensive list of sins that are considered to be grave: https://stmaryofthesevendolors.com/prayers-2/list-of-mortal-sins-every-catholic-should-know/
2) The priest not only represents Christ, but he also represents the entire community of believers, who are wounded by the sins of any given member, even those performed in secret.
Confession, therefore, restores our relationship with both God and with the entire Christian community. #catholic #confession #sacrament

PREVIEW: Sacrament #5
The Exorcist meets Alien in this sci-fi/horror story. In the year 3000, Mankind abandoned Earth and fled into outer space. Now, a disgraced priest, called into action to perform an exorcism on a remote space colony, is about to discover that no matter how far you run, you can't escape your demons, and the Devil is, in fact, real.

"The Mystery of the #Visitation implies a whole conception of #communication based on #charity [...] The beginning of communication is the salutation: #Peace be with you! God be with you. [...] How the Mystery of the Visitation is a perfect starting point: in this, the salutation was also a #sacrament; the salutation of Our #BlessedMother was the cause of sanctifying #grace being poured down upon the babe, that leapt in the womb."

@williamfaicher I’m not avid, so it’s a different scale, but #Sacrament, my first book by #CliveBarker, was like poetry, ocean-deep and personal. Because of it, I’m tackling #Imajica next, pray for me.

Once when I saw #thenational they sent the lead singer way out into the crowd with a microphone cable that was at least 150yds long, and I realized this may have been easier/cheaper with a wireless mic; so it must have been a conscious choice to use that long chord, and it made me think as a #GeriatricMillennial #priest I am a bridge to a bygone time because I often consciously value and choose reliable chorded connections and because I favor incarnate bonds over spiritual ones. #sacrament

"Priest performs baptism ritual wrong for 20 years, and all his baptisms — maybe even the marriages — are nullified"
The formula the priest used was "We baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," rather than "I baptize you..."
The story is completely insane, unless the #Catholic #Church believes its rituals (correctly performed) have actual force in the world, which of course the Church does believe.
