Forestry Corp taking a wrecking ball to Gumbaynggirr culture and the Great Koala National Park

"The Nature Conservation Council of New South Wales (NCC), the states leading environmental advocacy organisation, has today condemned targeted and intensive logging of forests within the proposed Great Koala National Park (GKNP) by Forestry Corporation of NSW (FCNSW)."

"Newry State Forest on the Mid-North Coast (10km west of Urunga) is the most recent target of these operations inside the proposed GKNP...31,000 hectares of forest are currently slated for logging within the boundaries of the proposed GKNP over the next 12 months. This represents nearly 18 per cent of the entire area proposed for gazettal to form the GKNP.”

Lithium mine near Oregon border threatens sacred cultural sites

A federal appeals court greenlit a Canadian mining company’s massive open-pit lithium mine near the Oregon border in Nevada on March 1, dealing the latest blow to Native American tribes and environmentalists seeking to prevent mine construction.

- The latest lawsuit alleges the Bureau of Land Management, or BLM, and mining company Lithium Americas violated multiple laws in the planning process and that the project would destroy the site of an 1865 U.S. Army massacre of Paiute people.

- Water and land defenders, protesters who support Indigenous causes to prevent harm to water and land through extraction and development, are also protesting the mine.

- Arlan Melendez, chairman of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, said the Trump administration fast-tracked the project, bypassing consultation with tribes but for a single letter sent to the three tribal nations closest to Peehee Mu’huh.

Day 12 Personal challenge to post a First day of issue stamp

Uluru is at one end of the Lasseter Highway. In neighbouring areas lie smaller rocks. In 1979 the place was chosen for a stamp. Of similar shape but less bulky, at a conservation area known as Karlu Karlu, but also in the Northern Territory is another sacred site. The difference is the absence of the graffitist’s paint. The Devils Marbles is a regular camp spot for the tourist. Some cannot pass withoul leaving their mark to ruin the visit for another.
