More like 5 years back for me. I even went to the trouble of making a blog post about it.

My contention at the time was that, for me, any kind of thing that halts a game and makes me stand out is something I would have been more uncomfortable invoking (especially when I was younger).

The post was an attempt to present some tools in a more conversational manner young me would have felt more comfortable making use of.

Ok, if you do not want to use #SafetyTools in your table, everyone agrees, nice. You can.

In my table there will always be. Not negociable. You do not like it, do not play in my table.

If you do not need them, nice! Good for you.

Telling they are useless or dismissing people needing them or wanting them, GFO (do you spell It like that? First time using It 😅).

Playing is for amusement. And I like everybody playing with me to be ok.

#GrimJim seems to be controversial in some #ttrpg circles. Sometimes I don't share his positions! However, regarding the questionable development of so-called #SafetyTools, I basically agree with him! I don't play with people who promote them. I think #SessionZero around character creation and the basic framework makes sense. I have no desire for "kitchen table psychology" at the gaming table, I've been doing without it for decades.

Der neue und schon in einer kostenlosen Version benutzbare „nicht-VTT" Alchemy hat von Anfang an #SafetyTools eingebaut - und zwar in einer Weise, die ich gut erklärt und einfach zu handhaben finde (offensichtlich auch mit der Möglichkeit, Lines und Veils als Spielende anonym angeben zu können). I always use Security Tools, as like X Card, Line and Veils and Traffic Lights. All of them. And I inform my players they CAN use them but they do not NEED to use them to be heard.

And I'm saying always. I care for my friends more than strangers, so I use them whatever the situation.

And I am so satisfied I Will not change it.

Um so etwas zu vermeiden gibt es bestimmte #SafetyTools bzw. #SafetyRules.

Ein Beliebtes Tool sind Handkarten, die ihr wortlos heben könnt, wenn euch eine Situation unangenehm wird. So kann die Spielleitung darauf reagieren.
Außerdem könnt ihr vor jeder Runde Themen festlegen, die nicht vorkommen sollen. Entweder in der Gruppe, anonym mit Zetteln oder in 4-Augen Gesprächen mit der Spielleitung.
Auch kann die Spielleitung, wenn sie sich bei einer Szene nicht sicher ist, immer das Abenteuer brechen und off Topic etwas ankündigen.

Das sind nur einige Vorschläge.

Das wichtigste Safety Tool seid ihr und eure Gruppe. Redet im Vorfeld miteinander und legt euch eure Regeln fest. Es ist euer Abenteuer.

@cgmelch Halte das für einen unbeholfenen Versuch, zu signalisieren, dass man als SL nicht vorhat, "harte" Themen ins Spiel einzubringen. At least they tried?

Zeigt natürlich trotzdem, dass der Sinn der X-Karte (und Konsens- und Sicherheitstools generell) nicht verstanden wurde.

Aber die grundlegende Einsicht, dass Konsens halt auch bei cozy Spielen wie #MagicalPets nötig ist und nicht nur bei Horror/Grimdark Zeugs, ist halt Voraussetzung, um #SafetyTools sinnvoll einsetzen zu können. #pnpde

Wenn ich in einem Aushang für eine Rollenspiel Session lese "auch wenn es nicht nötig sein wird, werden wir trotzdem die X- Karte benutzen" frage ich mich wirklich was das soll! Woher sollte es denn bekannt sein, ob die X-Karte gebraucht wird? Wenn sie auf den Tisch kommt, bitte bedingungslos und erwartungslos. Sagt euren Spielenden nicht, dass ihr den Einsatz nicht erwartet, denn das weiss einfach niemand!

Hab eine Runde auf einer lokalen Con hier in M angemeldet. Allerdings sind bei der Ausschreibung auf der Homepage meine Anmerkungen zu Inhalt und Safety Tools verschwunden. Ich bin leicht irritiert, habe aber mal höflich beim Veranstalter nachgefragt. Warte gespannt auf die Antwort.

After reading Blade Runner The Roleplaying Game by Free League, I wondered why are there are safety tools mentioned in the book, but not actually given. "Search the net." Sure, fine, but they could have actually given the reader one or two tools in just a few pages.

I wonder, is this because most safety tools are licensed, not public domain, and they would need to name the author at the minimum or possibly negotiate with them? Just a thought.
