There was a pretty nice sunset in Salem tonight. You can just imagine it because I didn't want to take some crappy phone photo with power poles, power lines, and house gables and lights in the foreground.
But imagine it. Orange at the horizon, strato cumulus above, undersides of clouds orange then pink. Then as the sun set everything got more purple instead of the orange to red thing it usually does. Ending in a deep purple.

Insider information. In Salem the final tally seems to be about 25 service requests for Urban Forestry (trees damaged enough to call the city eg. blocking roads or sidewalks)
That's probably a lot better than Portland
Speaking of ice storms...
Just about 2 years ago, Salem Oregon had a pretty bad ice storm, worse than Portland. Here's an ESRI #storymap about it.
I spent about 9 months doing daily data QA/QC. The Urban Forester is still catching up.
I sit here waiting for the worst to happen, confidently hoping that all the work I put in since then has our system fully prepared for any contingency.
