I’ve decided that any in person shopping that I need to do will be done in #Massachusetts. After reading about a shooting at target I would RATHER pay 5% #salestax in Mass than get gunned down by a #TrumpHumper because #NH has #ConstitionalCarry.

I have a handgun. I don’t take it shopping with me because I am not living in fear, but also I don’t know how to use it well enough to take it out of my house.

But #Sununu says it’s fine to open or conceal carry anyway.

I've heard/read this misunderstanding too often that Gumroad handles US sales tax.

Wrong: Gumroad does not remit sales tax for states in the USA. They may optionally COLLECT it (if you've configured it correctly), but it is not remitted to proper authorities.

(And just because you might be selling digital content doesn't eliminate the requirement in many US states).

👉Sales tax in the US across states is 💩.

In the past we've extolled extensively a two-pronged approach. Yes #salesTax (#GST) is about #consumption. Reinstate the pre-GST #LuxuryGoodsTax. Initiatives like #GNUTaler limit online surveillance despite online payment. More about that on request.

Removing #incomeTax and reverting to #LandTax that increases the more land one owns is imperative (known as #Georgism).

Imagine genuinely believing that abolishing the federal income tax and imposing a 30% sales tax on all consumer goods would HELP the average American.

What a god damned joke.

Currently, the only way you pay 30% of your income in federal income taxes is if you make over $170,000.

Who would that policy help? Let's use some common sense.

Your reminder that the so-called #FairTax would require a minimum of 23% national sales tax to make up for the entirety of our tax code it will replace.

Also, no company is going to cut product costs after. There is no benefit to them under capitalism. With the shift to a national sales tax comes an opportunity to increase profit. So all costs will go up, overwhelmingly harming those with lower income.

The "Fair Tax" is regressive tax.

IMO, it would be neat if the United States was a direct democracy.

I've written on this before but I do a lot of work on #salestax #tax reassessments for retail establishments. What is sorely needed is an influx of #technology folks that can work with #tax folks to come up with a file standard and then press to have a safe harbor provision for retail establishments that opt for a certified point of sale system that makes use of said standard. It's the Wild West out there right now. #pointofsale #pos #lawfedi #law
