Another good session at the plant hub potting on Bolboschoenus maritimus (sea club rush) stock plants for saltmarsh restoration sites.
Volunteers doing great work again, despite having to relocate outside, as it was too hot in the polytunnel! Great to see some new growth on the previously potted on plants too.

Gorgeous views over saltmarsh on the way to our Dornoch Firth restoration site. Sea plantain and sea aster pictured. These are such beautiful habitats and they store so much carbon.

Exciting work from Chloe Mikles' undergraduate thesis is finally out in
conservation genetics! Chloe sequenced whole genome sequences from 39 Song Sparrows in the San Francisco Bay Area
to explore the genetic basis of local adaptation and adaptive capacity among the 5 subspecies
found in the region.
Evolutionary divergence and adaptive capacity in morphologically distinct song sparrow subspecies

The final photo of this foggy salt marshes wander. Heading back inland to higher ground, I take one last look over this unique landscape on this foggy morning.

Where the salt marsh meets the sea.
The Lincolnshire salt marshes really can look forbidding. You can imagine in the past how the people who lived near them became religious or superstitious.

#BlueCarbon is the carbon captured by the world's ocean and coastal ecosystems. #SaltMarshes by area, stores 50 times more carbon than our forests. #Wetlands store between 20 and 30% of the world's carbon and must become a major part of our fight to control #ClimateChange. Find out more about blue carbon. #NatureInspired ❇️

For the next photo, I moved further into the salt marshes. Being out there in the coastal fog reminded me of the opening scenes of Charles Dicken's Great Expectations.

My second photo from the Lincolnshire salt marshes in the fog is taken low down in the scrub to show some of the different plants and grasses that make their home there.

Lincolnshire is split into several geographically defined areas each with a different feel. The Wolds, the Vales, the Trent Valley, the Fens, and the salt marshes. The one area of Lincolnshire which I have avoided photographing is the Lincolnshire Salt marshes. A coastal fog found me at the saltmarshes and the photos I will be sharing over the next couple of weeks are my attempts to photograph this area.

Farmers bid to preserve saltmarshes as they protect more than 88,000 homes from storms
In the past the coastal ecosystems have been viewed as wastelands, but a NSW agency says they can absorb eight times as much carbon as land-based forests and farmers are joining the effort to preserve them.

Good morning #oceanplanet. It's our second day here and time to introduce ourselves.
We are the national #oceanographic institute of the Netherlands, based on #Texel island and in #Yerseke. Our researchers work on fundamental questions about #biodiversity and #climatechange, by researching #migratorybirds #NorthSea #WaddenSea #buildingwithnature #coastalprotection #benthos #oceancurrents #saltmarshes #wetlands #deepseamining #deepsea #microbiology . We also host the Dutch research vessels.
