One of my first trips to San Francisco, I noticed amazing colours under the plane as we approached for landing at SFO. It took a while to learn that these are salt ponds. They change colour due to salinity and presence of crustaceans. It's amazing to fly over them at different times of the year, as colours change from brilliant oranges and magentas to tans and greens.
