Ze werden de tweede sessieband bij #Stax en de begeleidingsband van #OtisRedding en #SamAndDave.
In 1967 werden ze de touringband van Otis.
Op 10 december 1967 stapt hij ook mee in het vliegtuig met Otis en de band, en overleeft de crash niet.

werkt hij met Pat aan diens debuutalbum, om pas in 1976 zijn eigen fantastische debuut uit te brengen. Op deze plaat verzamelt hij de grootste namen, waaronder oa #HerbieHancock, #SamAndDave enz.
Net voor zijn debuut sluit hij zich aan bij #TheWeatherReport van #JoeZawinul. En op het 2 album van deze band scoren ze met het nummer #birdland een grammy award.
Ondertussen verzamelt hij rond zichzelf een bigband genaamd #WordOfMouth.
Midden jaren 80 verdwijnt hij uit beeld en overlijdt in 1987.
