In preparing for the release of SUMMER'S END IV this October 1, I reckon I should re-post some favorite moments from the preceding albums. This is "Rise, Het-Sem-Peckinpah" from the first Summer's End, released in October 2020.

This is one of my very first videos, actually, and I'm surprised at how well it holds up. The footage in this video is taken from the following public domain sources:

Connell, W.M. (Director). (c. 1946.) Rouhea Bey: Arab dance [Motion picture]. In Connell, W.M. (Director), Variety girls [Motion picture]. United States: Quality Pictures, Co. Retrieved from archive.org/details/0733_Soun...

Hunter, T.H. (Director), & Balcon, M. (Producer). (1933.) The ghoul. London, England, United Kingdom: Gaumont British Film Corporation. Retrieved from: archive.org/details/TheGhoul

NOTE: Rouhea Bey deserves special mention. Her only other appearance was in Irving Pichel's Temptation (1946), where she plays an uncredited "Oriental Dancer." She was amazingly talented however, and I am very glad to have been able to include her in this project.

I have no 💲 💲 for Spooky Season. I have no ⚡ ⚡ for Spooky Season. But I do have a lot of mental enthusiasm I intend to nurture with loads of scary movies and a generous helping of 🍬 🍬

We recently passed the halfway point of my "Long " (lasting from May Day to Halloween this year, or as we pagans know it, to ), so I thought I'd check in with the list publicly to see how it's going. It's been a fascinating summer of reading, although my numbers are ridiculously low, just 12 books (or book series) finished, out of 32 I had hoped to be done with by now. But that's fine -- I'm only doing it for fun, and it's certainly fun!

There is a lot of traditions around love and marriage at Halloween. They say on Samhain (Halloween) at the stroke of midnight if you look at a mirror whilst holding a candle you will see the one you are meant to be with.

I told someone that if I ever get a cat it’ll be a black cat named Samhain (Sammy for short) and they said that that’s a crappy name because it’d be like naming a cat “Christmas” as if that wouldn’t be a fantastic name for a cat

„Not only did fire represent the nurturing heat and light of the sun, but it possessed cleansing and purification powers, and brought the blessings of the gods. Evidence of these huge fires have been found at Tlachtga on the Hill of Ward, an ancient site known to be associated with the festival of .“

Pondering which of the pagan festivals have been incorporated into film, ideally (folk) horror:
Beltane: Wicker Man
Litha: Midsommar
Samhain: tons of Halloween movies but anything more "traditional"?
Yule: any pagan non-Christmas films?

`The queen , “tear,” came to the warrior poet , in a vision in which she whipped him senseless. The greatest of heroes fell into a lovesick stupor in which he lingered for a year. When the year had passed and the great feast of came, he went into the Otherworld for Fand, leaving behind his loyal wife . Although Emer had endured ‘s other affairs, she could not bear to lose him to , so she followed him. When she saw how deeply Fand loved him, and he her, Emer offered to step aside. Fand, not to be outdone, offered the same and returned to her own husband, Manannán Mac Lir, who wrapped her in his magical cloak to make her forget the human hero. On earth, and drank a potion of forgetfulness and returned to their earlier state.`

„All the ancient festivals were celebrated with fire. The sun was considered to bring great healing energy. Walking three times ‘sun wise’, or cor deiseil, around a fire represented the circling of the sun, and was a potent ritual invocation of the sun’s healing power. We know from the number of monuments which align with sunrise on a festival morning that this part of the day was greatly revered; no doubt feeling the full force of the rays of the rising sun, as well as being spiritually uplifting, was considered beneficial to one’s healing process.“

gnwmythr.blogspot.com/2012/01/ For any Pagans out there, this is a ritual I wrote years ago attempting to combine southern hemisphere Samhain with a northern hemisphere Beltane (and I should have thought to post it a few days ago). I first learned about the the Wheel of the Year when I was living in the tropics (southern hemisphere), so my experience of seasons was: hot, humid and unending blue sky with sun to our north, hot, humid and unending blue sky with sun to our south, hot, VERY humid and unending blue sky with sun to our south, a week or two of monsoonal rain and floods (we had ducks visit the floodwater in our back yard), and hot, humid and unending blue sky with sun to our north. Indigenous seasons always made more sense. It also didn’t seem right to me that each hemisphere did its own thing with no acknowledgement of the other hemisphere, so I had a go at writing a series of rituals - I might try to rewrite these to something better (simpler, at least) when I retire, but I’d be just as happy for someone more talented to do that 👵🏼.

`The did not mark the two equinoxes, when daylight and darkness are of equal length, nor the solstices in winter and summer, as most other peoples of the world do. Rather, they marked the points in between, in their great festivals of (winter), (spring), (summer), and Lughnasa (autumn). That the Celts marked the season’s midpoint rather than the point of change may relate to the insistence upon the sacredness of the center, which is both a geographical and a spiritual concept.`
