Just came back from Gabriela Lena Frank's new #opera “El último sueño de Frida y Diego,” which I liked a lot. It's two firsts for #SanFranciscoOpera: their first opera with a Spanish libretto, and their first opera by a female composer.

There are still several performances. Recommended.

When I was renewing our #SanFranciscoOpera subscription I was struck by the fact that three of next year's eight operas are from the 21st century. Apparently San Francisco isn't alone: New York's #MetropolitanOpera is also planning to present a lot of 21st century opera, including a number of world premieres.

I'm all for it. There's a lot of great #opera from the 19th century, but the repertoire can't remain frozen. I'm glad major opera companies are presenting the works of today's composers.

Dear #SanFranciscoOpera, I have been a subscriber for over 20 years. I have greatly appreciated the mask and vaccination requirements for attendance - it has made me more comfortable with attending performances with my mother. The decision to no longer require masks and/or vaccinations is a bad one which will make the Opera less accessible for vulnerable people, including most of your subscribers and donors. Please reconsider this decision.
