Coyote Creek Trail, a nice 18 mile paved bike path in the southern portion of the San Jose CA area and just a bit north of Morgan Hill. We rode the trail out and back yesterday for an easy and mostly flat 36 miles. It's a pretty trail along the creek and worth exploring.

We had a blast today at #VivaCalleSJ in Japantown! We had great pizza and beer at Jtown Pizza, and got to stop by the #VTA booth. It was great to see that so many people had stopped by and given feedback about what they’d like to see in transit in #SanJose and #SantaClaraCounty. Unsurprisingly, the most votes when to more and faster transit. People want #PublicTransit!

Sitting in the tarmac, just landed at #sjc #sanjose airport. A security issue is being reported and we are not allowed to come to the terminal. In the plane.

To satisfy my curiosity about Palo Alto I calculated the effective tax %.

I am surprised. #SantaClara and #Sunnyvale have the lowest effective tax rates, whereas #SanJose is the highest

The calculation is using all taxes, including special assessments and parcel taxes, and dividing by the assessed value. Random outliers with high tax are because the assessed value is very low (eg. empty lots held since the 70s) but parcel taxes are a flat rate.

Prop 13 keeps the assessed values from being realistic. Anyone have a dataset with realistic land valuations?
