A major update to the #Stata
#sankey v1.6 is now out:
- Complete rewrite of the base routines. The code is faster and more flexible.
- Complete control over sorting nodes and flows.
- Own flows can now be collapsed.
-sortby() has been split into sort1() which orders the nodes and sort2() which orders the flows.
- Support has been added for numerical variables to allow custom sorting.

- Value labels can be dropped from either side of the flows
- Value and box label scaling added to adjust to relative stocks & flows
- sorby(., reverse option added)

- Edge bundling algorithm added. Allows better distribution/visualization of nodes.

What are good #Python examples to generate #sankey?

Btw #treemap was 10x more complex to program than #sankey. It employs a divide-&-conquer algorithm that attempts to optimize box placement, either by slicing or dicing, for a given width, height, aspect ratio. This means that a change in dimensions = complete change in layout.

Here are data tests using #COMTRADE. The #treemap shows the % share of petroleum exports by country and subregion.

#sankey shows subregion to subregion flows of petroleum products.

Both packages are part of the #heirarchical #dataviz series. More on this later.

The #alluvial package takes a list of categorical variables and plots them across layers. Like the #sankey it also allows sigificant customization including colors, arc types, labels, showing missing values, proportions etc.
